Green Homes

Green homes are designed to be more eco-friendly than conventional residential structures. They accomplish this through a number of means. Some of these homes are built to be very energy efficient. Others are simply improved.

Homes built with the standard design will have much higher energy bills than green homes. During the summer and winter, these expenses can often be traced to air leaks. Inefficient windows may also contribute to this problem. Another issue may be poorly sealed or insulated ducts.

Green homes will often have fewer issues with mold and mildew. Water leaks and high humidity are a couple reasons why such mildew develops. In addition to unpleasant musty odors, these probably can also rot wood and cause other structural damage. Health problems are also known to develop due to mold and mildew.

You can still live green, if your house was not designed to be eco friendly. Finding ways to reduce your energy consumption, using hydroponic systems in your garden, and simply turning off or unpluging devices when not in use, can help a great deal.
